Celebrating Bus Driver Appreciation Day

Tuesday, April 22, is National Bus Driver Appreciation Day! 

In Avon Schools we are blessed with a great team of women and men — bus drivers, aides, office staff, and mechanics — who are responsible for safely transporting our students to and from school each day. They do an awesome job! As the first and last faces our students see each day, they play an outsized role in the lives and education of our students.

Here are a few comments from families who have recently nominated bus drivers as ALL Stars:

• She is dedicated to Avon and shows empathy for all her students. She is an all-around great person and a wonderful bus driver who is committed to keeping her students safe.
• He is a phenomenal bus driver. He has the respect and admiration of many little hearts and minds. He keeps his bus in order and doesn't put up with bad behavior. He has taken care of medical emergencies and kept the kiddos calm. He plays fun music. (My daughter now loves Queen. Thank you!) He fist bumps each kiddo every morning and greets everyone with a big smile. I can't imagine a better way to start the adventure to school.
• She has become more of a second mom to my son than a bus driver. My son trusts her and confides in her.
• She knows when her kiddos have good days and bad days. She’s the first to see them in the morning before they get to school and last to see them before getting home. She always has a smile and a pleasant word for all.
• One morning, one of my second grade students realized she had left her lunchbox at home and started sobbing as she was getting off her bus at school. The driver took some of her own money to give to the little girl so she could get a school lunch. It was such a generous and kind gesture.
• She is so friendly! She makes sure the kiddos feel welcome as they board the bus to school. She connects with each child and makes sure they safely arrive at school and at home. Avon is lucky to have her!

These are just a few of the sentiments we've heard recently, but we're sure there are many more. If you have a chance on National Bus Driver Appreciation Day — or any day for that matter — be sure to tell your bus driver, aide, or transportation department member how much you appreciate them!
