Our Record-Setting Graduation Rate

Our Record-Setting Graduation Rate

Avon High School has always had a high graduation rate, but the class of 2025 broke the record for the all-time highest.

This spring, 98.4% of AHS students graduated.

How was AHS able to achieve such a high mark?

"It is a combination of factors," says Principal Matt Shockley. "In a school as big as AHS, it can be easy for students to get lost in the crowd and become disengaged. Disengagement impacts things like attendance, behavior, and grades. The 2018 Referendum allowed us to add 60 new clubs, making our big school smaller, giving students additional reasons to show up to school and remain engaged all the way through graduation."

This doesn't begin once students get to AHS.

"I think the extracurricular experiences kids have in Avon are extremely important," says White Oak Early Learning Center Principal and long-time Avon administrator Karie Mize. "The number of clubs our elementary kids had access to after the Referendum passed in 2018 compared to what was there prior to that point — there's just no comparison. Our students are building warm relationships and finding their passions at an early age and that carries on through graduation."

The voter-approved 2018 Operating Referendum helped Avon Schools to surround students with vital supports, additional instructional assistants, club opportunities, and extra-curriculars. To find out more about the impact of the 2025 Operating Referendum Renewal, visit the webpage.
