The 2018 Referendum & Standardized Test Scores

The 2018 Referendum & Standardized Test Scores

In 2011, shortly after the State made changes to property tax laws that resulted in a large decrease to the amount of funds that were allocated from Indiana communities into their local school districts, Avon Community School Corporation experienced a failed referendum.

During this season of rapid population growth in the Avon-Washington Township community and decrease in funding, class sizes increased significantly. From 2012, when ACSC ranked 16 out of 292 Indiana school corporations on standardized testing results, until 2018, ACSC's state rank fell 39 places to 55th in the state.

In 2018, when the community supported the Operating Referendum, ACSC immediately hired additional educators and decreased class sizes. Test scores rebounded immediately. Since 2022, ACSC's standardized testing scores have again ranked within the top 10% of Indiana school corporations.
